What We Do
What does the Council on Aging do for seniors in the community?

Our community includes seniors and their extended families, public and private care and service providers, and those planning and legislating for them.

INVESTIGATE:
The Council on Aging explores ways of addressing seniors' issues and concerns by means of task forces & working groups, research projects (e.g. CMHC Housing Research Project, Successful Aging Ottawa Seniors Survey), and collaborative consultations and partnerships (e.g. Senior Accessible Health Care).

COMMUNICATE:
The Council on Aging informs its members and those in its community of COA activities and seniors' issues via its website and e-mail as well as through its publications, bulletins, and media releases.

EDUCATE:
The Council on Aging aims to improve the knowledge of seniors' issues among members of its community through fora, workshops, publications, presentations, and its speaker's bureau.

COORDINATE:
The Council on Aging works with other organizations and agencies to better leverage limited community resources in order to maximize effective outcomes.  Recent examples of coordinated efforts include Successful Aging Ottawa and the Elder Abuse Community Response Network.

ACTIVATE:
The Council on Aging (COA) employs the results of its investigations to inform planners and legislators and advocates for action that is necessary and important to the community and the welfare of seniors.
