Links Useful Websites Over the years, several organizations and countries have been able to develop a wealth of information on aging issues, and on abuse and neglect in later life. Listed alphabetically: Action on Elder Abuse – UK A national organization "established by a group of practitioners from health and social care, academics and representatives of the voluntary sector who were concerned about the lack of information and assistance for those who were abused or were at risk of abusing."
Age Concern (England) A charitable organization that provides services and information for people aged 50 and over. Campaigns on issues like age discrimination, and works to influence public opinion and government policy about older people.
Age Concern (New Zealand) An independent, charitable, not-for-profit organization in New Zealand with the mission of working together to promote the quality of life and well-being of older people.
American Association of Retired Persons A not-for-profit membership organization of persons aged 50 and over, dedicated to addressing their needs and interests.
Canadian Association on Gerontology (CAG) The Canadian Association on Gerontology (CAG) is a national, multidisciplinary scientific and educational association established to provide leadership in matters related to the aging population.
Canadian Association of Retired Persons CARP is Canada's Association for the Fifty-Plus.
Canadian Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse This website provides information to raise awareness of key issues around abuse and neglect in later life and to assure older adults are treated as full citizens in Canadian society. Extensive links to websites and publications of particular interest to Canadian audiences.
Global Action on Aging Global Action on Aging (GAA), based in New York at the United Nations, reports on older people’s needs and potential within the global economy. It advocates by, with and for older persons worldwide.
Help Age International (HAI) Is a global network of not-for-profit organizations with a mission to work with and for disadvantaged older people worldwide to achieve a lasting improvement in the quality of their lives. Website identifies events, training, and news from around the world.
International Association on Gerontology Promotes gerontological research and training worldwide and interacts with other international, inter-governmental, and non-governmental organizations in the promotion of gerontological interests globally and on behalf of its member associations.
International Federation on Aging Is a membership based network of organizations, bodies and individuals with a mission to improve the quality of life of older people around the world through policy change, grassroot partnerships and strengthening bridges between public and private sectors concerned with aging issues.
International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse. National Center on Elder Abuse The National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA), funded by the U.S. Administration on Aging, is a gateway to resources on elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Basic fact sheets as well as extensive bibliographies on topics such as cultural issues in abuse and abuse and aboriginal people. The site also contains a searchable database of documents and links to a discussion group and newsletter.
National Clearinghouse on Family Violence, Health Canada. Abuse of Older Adults www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/ncfv-cnivf/familyviolence/ This section of the Clearinghouse contains PDF files of key Health Canada documents on the issue of Elder Abuse.
National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (U.S.) The National Committee for the Prevention of Elder Abuse is a multi-disciplinary organization devoted to elder abuse. Includes policy updates; news and articles; discussion of issues such as mental capacity and consent .
Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (ONPEA) Contains a list of resources, including a bibliography, fact sheets, and pamphlets.
Ontario Seniors’ Secretariat –www.citizenship.gov.on.ca/seniors/ The Ontario Seniors' Secretariat influences and supports policy development across all government activities on behalf of Ontario's seniors.
